CppCon 2026

Alan de Freitas is a staff software engineer at The C++ Alliance and one of its earliest members, where he leads MrDocs, the Alliance's open-source documentation generator for modern C++. He created Matplot++, a widely used C++ plotting library, and helped bring Boost.URL into the Boost collection, where he remains a maintainer. His work is as much coordination as code: shaping architecture, reviewing contributions, and helping the engineers around him ship tools that reach the wider Boost and C++ communities. Before the Alliance, he spent years in academia and industry. He taught C++ as a university professor from introductory to doctoral level, was a Marie Curie researcher in the EU, and worked on aircraft-engine design at Rolls-Royce. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering focused on computational intelligence, with over 50 peer-reviewed publications, and his research has long connected two of his passions, optimization and music. He grew up in the countryside of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and is now based in Panama.
