About me
Dr Daniel Towner is a Principal Systems Engineer at Intel, where he has spent the last two decades helping telecoms software extract every last cycle from modern hardware. With 25 years in the industry behind him, including 12 years as a GCC port maintainer, he now splits his time between teaching advanced optimisation, implementing high-performance libraries, and influencing x86 instruction set design, with contributions to both AMX and AVX512-FP16. Daniel holds 10 patents in telecoms and processor design, and has published numerous whitepapers and journal articles. He is one of the authors of the C++26 std::simd proposal, has submitted over 20 papers to SG1, SG6, and LEWG, and is now turning his attention to extensions to std::simd for C++29. Daniel lives in Bath, UK. When he isn't writing C++, he can usually be found building things (houses, bikes, furniture) or playing in the mountains.
