Marco Barbone is a Software Engineer in the Center for Computational Mathematics at the Flatiron Institute, Simons Foundation, in New York. His work focuses on high-performance computing, SIMD optimization, and GPU/FPGA programming — making scientific software run as fast as the hardware allows.He contributes to FINUFFT, TRIQS, and xsimd, and authors open-source HPC tools including treeweave, POET, and polyfit. He holds a Ph.D. in Computing from Imperial College London, in affiliation with The Institute of Cancer Research, and an M.Sc. in Computer Science and Networking from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna and the University of Pisa.Before Flatiron, he worked on performance at Optiver, hardware simulation at Intel, computing for the CMS experiment at CERN, and compiler optimization at Maxeler Technologies.
